ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Shauna Menke

Shauna Menke (she/her) holds a doctorate in physical therapy* from the University of Iowa (2005) and has been a certified Stott Pilates instructor since 2007. After practicing physical therapy in an orthopedic setting for nearly a decade, Shauna left the traditional clinic behind to open a small pilates studio. Although passionate about her work, Shauna closed the studio after a couple years to focus on raising her young family. A running enthusiast, she spent years working with the local high school and college running community and has provided pilates programming for all ages within the community. Although initially focusing her attention on core stabilization, Shauna became increasingly intrigued by fascial mobility and the patterns of movement we create and store within our musculoskeletal system. She continually observes the postures and movements of those around her and the stories our bodies tell.  Having recently developed an interest in yoga, she is also currently working on her 200-hour yoga teacher certification through Soul of Yoga in Encinitas, CA.

Shauna possesses a deep love for both nature and art, and is passionate about creating space for conversation around mental health, encouraging mind-body wellness, and empowering her two daughters to rise up and greet the world with openness and compassion for others.  Zen Squirrel Studio is a cumulative result of her kinesiology knowledge, pilates experience, educational background, love of yoga, and passion for empowering others.

*Although Shauna Menke has a doctorate in physical therapy, services at Zen Squirrel Pilates Studio are not considered physical therapy, are not covered by insurance, and should not take the place of physical therapy when prescribed by a physician.
